LISBON TO MADRID DAYS 18-21: CYCLING TO GRANADA

18: Friday 17th December 2021. Seville to Moron de Frontera

48.1 miles cycling, 1,371 ft altitude climbed, 5.08 cycling time).

We left Seville at just past 9.00am heading out east along fairly busy roads. We took a small diversion to go past the Christopher Columbus memorial, although we were at the park gates before they were opened so we were only able to view it from a distance.

The day was quite easy cycling along the hard shoulders of largely flat roads (mainly the A376) through a lot of olive groves. We passed through several pleasant towns such as Dos Herman’s, Utrera, and Los Molares before we cycled into Moron de Frontera. Unfortunately the adjustment I thought I had made to our route, taking us to our hotel, had not been saved and we therefore cycled into Moron De Fontera, up a very steep hill before going down a very steep hill and then when we checked where we were going realised our destination was actually 3Km’s back down the road we had just come. Well at least we got to see the town.

A typical view of today’s ride

Our hotel was one of these out of two locations that looks like it is really a restaurant with rooms above it. On this day there was an office party or something like that going on. We were told to leave our bikes in the hall and shown to our rooms where I had a business meeting that we just arrived in time for. When I went downstairs to lock up the bikes about an hour later I found a man crashed out on the sofa next to them, clearly having over indulged – or perhaps he was just enjoying a late siesta.

Another frustrating meal though at this hotel – we were the only ones in the restaurant and there were no vegetarian options again on the menu. Frustrating.
